What it’s like to wait…

It’s hard to wait for things to happen.

MacMillan has just learned what it means to wait. He will hold up one finger and look at me seriously and say “Wait”. Apparently I make this motion a lot.

When we are waiting to be chosen by a birth mom we are excited, nervous and anxious all at the same time. Any day at any moment you could get a call saying you have been chosen by a birth mom. She could be due in a couple months, in a day or already have had the baby in the hospital. To me it’s like being in the 2nd Trimester of pregnancy except that you have no idea when the due date is.

The thing that I wish I could experience is the joy that other people have when they see you pregnant. I am expecting my little one in my heart and I want others to share in my joy. I want them to know that I love my baby who I haven’t met. I love their birth mom. I pray for her and that we will be a good match. That we can have a long and loving relationship that will help our child grow and develop.

Being an adoptive mom is different. Not in a bad way but I want you to know that I am overjoyed at the coming of our baby whether it happens soon or in a year. I am happily waiting.

Psalm 27:13-14   I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
