We have all had one of those days when everything seems to be going wrong. Or maybe you are having a month or a year. No matter how hard you try to do the right thing you are surrounded. You feel like the walls are caving in and you are gasping for air.

Many days I have felt this way as we wait to be chosen by a birth mother. But as I was thinking about myself I tried to put myself in her shoes. For as much as I have longed to have a child, for so many women it seems like the end of the world when they find themselves pregnant. They are surrounded by people and circumstances that make having a child seem like an impossible situation. Family, friends, and significant others all have opinions on what they should do about their unborn child. Making this decision will alter their life forever. That is why birth mothers are so brave. Choosing to let you child live and give them to another family is the ultimate self-sacrifice. The unconditional love they have for their unborn child is amazing. The true act of a loving mother.

So while I feel surrounded sometimes by stress, anxiety, fear and doubt, I cannot imagine how she might feel. What a blessing it will be one day to meet the woman who gives life to my child. To be able to thank her for making me a mother will be one of God’s greatest blessings.

When you feel surround by the people and situations in your life remember how Moses and the people of Israel were led out of the Land of Egypt:

Exodus 14:10 As Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel looked, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they became very frightened; so the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord.

Exodus 14:13-14 But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent.

Exodus 14:29-30 But the sons of Israel walked on dry land through the midst of the sea, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand an on their left. Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.

The seas of life may surround us but we can trust that God will fight for us.
