Mystery

I love detective shows. I guess it all started when I was a kid and we watched Sherlock Holmes on PBS. Finding clues, deducing and trying to understand the psychology of the criminal are all interesting to me. Currently, there is no greater mystery in my life than that of God’s plan for it.

We recently had booked a vacation to Chicago. Husband was desperately is need of some relaxation and fun. He works very hard and needs to get out-of-town. Due to the fact that we are still waiting to be matched with a birth mother, I decided to make plans with as much caution as possible. Plane tickets were booked with Southwest because they don’t charge change fees and the hotel reservation was made through Booking.com which didn’t require a deposit or paying up front but still got us a good rate. I am so happy I made those precautions because sadly we had to cancel our trip.

Our cat Samantha, who is 16, has been sick consistently for about 2 months seemed to only get worse. Husband knew that I was very worried about leaving her and we mutually decided to cancel the trip because of this. Of course as soon as we cancelled the trip, her medicine and the new routine I started  seemed to magically work and she was no longer so sick. As happy as I was that she was well, it was also vexing to have cancelled a trip we wanted to go on. But God’s plans often unfold in mysterious ways.

We received a phone call from our adoption agency about possibly meeting with a birth mother that week. Which would have required us to cancel the vacation anyway. Unfortunately, nothing came of that situation and as frustrating it was, it was nice to see something happening after being in the waiting mode for so long. Then on Wednesday morning I realized that it was getting hotter in our house instead of cooler. This lead to a call to our AC repair guy and sadly the news that we needed a whole new condenser. Needless to say had this happened while we were in Chicago it would have been harder to deal with and our cats could have been stuck in a very hot house for a day or more without anyone noticing.

Everyday I am reminded in some way that God’s plan is bigger and better than mine. This month so far as been a crash course, reminding me that God’s plans are a mystery that I will never solve. Today I read Hebrews 11 to remind me of all those who came before us that acted in faith, trusting that God would provide and keep His promises.

Hebrews 11: 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (KJV)

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (NASB)

God is faithful and knows our needs. He still provided a way for us to get out-of-town through a friend who got us into Epcot and using hotel points to get a free night stay in Orlando. Then we decided to take a short trip to the beach which was very relaxing and fun. Although not our original plan we did make the most of the situation and we were blessed to only be without AC in our house for 1 day.

So if your plans seem ruined and everything is crumbling around you, I urge you to look for the clues as to what God’s mysterious plan is for you.

Isaiah 55:8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” (NLT)
