Everyday situations in our lives give us two choices : to hope or to worry.Â
Hope : To expect with confidence.
Worry :Â To cause to feel anxious, distressed, or troubled.
Whether your problems are small or large, self-inflicted or caused by others, or it seems like outside forces are against you, your reaction to the situation is all on you. It is hard to be positive when the world is crashing down around you. Sometimes moving forward seems impossible. Worrying is our natural and human reaction. The mind races with what could happen. We jump to conclusions and feel like there is nothing that we can do to stop this train of frustration and pain from moving forward.
When my mind races with these types of thoughts, I choose hope. And my hope is in the Lord.
Matthew 6:25-27, 34 Â For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life,Â as toÂ what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body,Â as toÂ what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?Â â€œLook at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, andÂ yetÂ your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?Â â€œAnd who of you by being worried can add aÂ singleÂ hour to his life?Â So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Lamentations 3: 19-25 Â I remember my affliction and my wandering,Â the bitternessÂ and the gall.Â I well remember them,Â and my soul is downcastÂ within me.Â Â Yet this I call to mindÂ and therefore I have hope:Â Â Because of theÂ Lordâ€™s great loveÂ we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.Â Â They are new every morning;Â great is Your faithfulness.Â Â I say to myself, â€œTheÂ LordÂ is my portion;Â Â therefore I will wait for him.â€Â TheÂ LordÂ is good to those whose hope is in Him,Â to the one who seeks Him.
Do not let the weight of today’s problems hold you down. Take them to God in prayer. Don’t let worry control your life. Hope. Because we know who holds the future.
